Mara Getz is among that small number of performers destined to climb to the top of the music business. She has the voice, she has the presence, and she has the looks. She has amazing versatility and a distinctive musical style that can range from recording studio work to intimate jazz clubs to Broadway stages to the largest European music festivals without missing a beat. A 20-year industry veteran, Getz' successful career has spawned a chart-topping solo album, honors in National and International music competitions and a loyal legion of fans around the globe. Getz began her career at five in church where her mother, acting as choir director, nurtured her talent for singing and acting. Mara performed at many family gatherings while growing up and dreamed of making singing her livelihood. Music was her passion and after a few years of vocal performance in Minneapolis she packed her bags and moved to Los Angeles in 1982. Within no time Getz was headlining in the LA club circuit. Her local acclaim brought her to the attention of talent executives and she soon was appearing on "The Merv Griffin Show", "You Write The Songs" and "Cop Rock". Americans first recognized this farm girl from Baker, Minnesota as a 1985 finalist on TV's "Star Search". Since then she has headlined at clubs across the country and opened for such legendary entertainers as Bill Cosby, Joan Rivers, Phyllis Diller and George Burns. In 1992 her opening performance for Jay Leno at Caesars Palace received overwhelming critical praise. Mara's extraordinary vocal talent has been repeatedly recognized internationally by winning song competitions in Finland, Holland, and Egypt. At the Sopot '86 International Festival in Poland she won the Grand Prix, receiving the top three honors of the Festival...the first American to have done so in 20 years! The summer of '86 brought Getz her first theatrical debut at the Matrix Theatre in Amanda McBroom - "Heartbeats". In 1988 the singer / actress landed the lead female role in the musical "Mail" written by Michael Rupert and Jerry Colker. Mara co-starred with Michael and played for a smash season in Los Angeles before moving to New York's Broadway stage. In 1989 Getz was approached by Japan's premier music label - Pony Canyon Records. Mara's debut album "In Your Eyes" was released in Japan and climbed to the Top 20 on the International Charts. The album's title track bulleted to #3 on the singles chart. This success brought about her second album which Getz co - wrote and co - produced with some of LA's finest. Her sold out tour throughout Japan was a testimony to the excitement and popularity the albums created.

These cds were recorded live in concert with the outstanding musical direction of Ron Abel. currently Mara resides in Palm Springs, California where for the first time the Mabel Mercer Cabaret Convention was hosted in March of 2003. It was an honor for her to perform in this show as the Mabel Mercer presentation is widely regarded as the premier cabaret event. In October of the same year Mara traveled to New York for another performance at the "14th Annual Cabaret Convention" at Town Hall on Friday the 24th. November 2003 saw the World Premiere of the musical comedy, "Bite Me!", written by the Emmy-nominated Wesley Eure and Rob Bowers. Performances at the local cabaret "Heaven" in Palm Springs played to standing room only crowds. Mara was excited to be in the cast and to bring her character, "Charity", to new levels of "duh" - mbness. Mara teamed up with her favorite male singer, Richard Leibell, along with Wayne Abravanel and his Quintet for a concert at the Cerritos Center on November 16, 2004 featuring the songs of Harry Warren and Burt Bacharach. The sold - out event played to an enthusiastic crowd. Mara and Richard , noted as "two of the finest singers in the nation" ( Gary Walker - The Desert Sun ) continue to perform in tandem. Richard Leibell will join her once again on January 18th , 2007 when Mara will make her debut with the Coachella Valley Symphony, conducted by Christian Chalifour. Also, The "Cabaret All - Star Orchestra" under the direction of Richard Stover will host a series of concerts featuring Getz in January and February performing songs that were made famous by Rosemary Clooney, Barbara Streisand and Bette Midler.
